Even at 2 a.m., Butler receives a well-deserved hero’s welcome

Butler guard Ronald Nored is apparently as comfortable with a microphone in his hands as he is with a basketball.

Speaking in front of hundreds of Butler fans Sunday morning at an impromptu 2 a.m. rally following the team's arrival from New Orleans, Nored thanked the crowd for braving the cold to celebrate the Bulldogs' unlikely return to the Final Four. Then Nored promised that he and his teammates will not be satisfied with being runner-ups again.

"We love all you guys and hope we can continue this ride," he said. "I told somebody today that this year, we're going to get the real call from President Obama and not the runner-up call."

That statement, of course, drew loud cheers from the fans who had stayed up to greet the Bulldogs hours after their overtime victory against Florida in the Elite Eight. Hundreds of fans stood and applauded as the Bulldogs bus arrived from the airport and then joined the team at Hinkle Fieldhouse for the hastily scheduled rally.

Butler coach Brad Stevens had to leave at halftime of senior day as a result of blurred vision, so he said he was happy for one final chance to address the fans about this year's team. He encouraged the crowd to come to Houston for the Final Four just like so many Butler fans did when it was in Indianapolis a year ago.

"Houston's not that far. All of you should be there," Stevens said. "If all of you could make it there, we would love to have you. And if you can't, you can tune in and support us the way you did tonight."
