CrossFit Radio Episode 166

On Episode 166 of CrossFit Radio, host Justin Judkins interviewed two CrossFit Games Open athletes, Gil Hollingsworth and 2010 Games 11th-place finisher Elyse Umeda. This episode was webcast live at 6 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

4:50 Gil Hollingsworth is competing in the Southwest Region and was in eighth place when this show was aired. Gil narrowly missed qualifying for the 2010 Games by two spots, and he spoke about the disappointment of not making the cut and having to watch the Games last summer. Gil talked about his training leading into this season and what adjustments he’s made. He spoke about the Open competition so far and his solid performance on the first two WODs, and he explained how he plans to attack WOD 3.

29:40 Elyse Umeda is a fan favorite at CrossFit competitions, and the former Princeton women’s basketball star was leading the Northern California Region after WOD 2. Elyse talked about her love of competition, from the 2010 Games to the CrossFit-USAW event that went down in Colorado Springs in October 2010. She explained what her training volume looks like on a weekly basis and how she prepared for this year’s season. Elyse also detailed the strategy she employed for the first third of the Open. The outstanding athlete is also a pretty good affiliate owner. She opened a new box a little over a month ago and already has over 100 members. She spoke about getting CrossFit 808 off the ground and what has enabled her to be successful right out of the gate.
