1. Organizers of Sunday's victory celebration in honor of UConn's national championship say they may have to cancel the parade through downtown Hartford if they can't raise enough money to fund it by Friday. The parade will cost an estimated $50,000, but organizers had only raised about $25,000 as of Wednesday evening.
2. Xavier's hopes of starting next season in the top 25 likely rest on the feedback NBA executives give star point guard Tu Holloway the next few weeks. According to FoxSports.com, Holloway will enter the NBA draft but not sign with an agent, leaving open the possibility that he could pull out by the May 8 deadline and return to Xavier for his senior season.
3. Purdue coach Matt Painter now has two vacancies on his staff to fill after Mike Jackson resigned Wednesday a month removed from pleading guilty to charges of driving a vehicle while intoxicated. Earlier this month, associate head coach Paul Lusk replaced Cuonzo Martin at Missouri State.
4. Even though Nate Miles told the New York Times he'd be willing to talk with the NCAA about his claims that Jim Calhoun was well aware he was receiving extra benefits, the former UConn recruit apparently changed his mind. ESPN.com reports that Miles blew off NCAA investigators when they attempted to schedule a meeting with him in Toledo.
5. Recruiting at UCLA had stagnated since the Bruins signed an ill-fated top-ranked five-man 2008 class, so Ben Howland made an interesting assistant coaching hire to jumpstart that facet of his program. According to FoxSports.com, Howland will hire Korey McCray, who the last few years helped run the Atlanta Celtics AAU program that produced the likes of Dwight Howard, Josh Smith and Derrick Favors, among others.�
Kemba Walker and Jimmer Fredette both made a brief appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live during their visit to Los Angeles for last week's Wooden Award ceremony, a clip most memorable for how little personality either showed. Both Walker and Fredette have shown charisma and sense of humor all season, so perhaps they were nervous or perhaps Kimmel could have done more to draw that out of them.
