Breakfast Buffet: UNLV's new black jerseys are a major hit

Pull up a chair and sit down at the breakfast buffet, an assortment of all the freshest newsworthy college hoops stories on the net. To make a submission, contact me via email or Twitter.

• Black college hoops uniforms are like red cocktail dresses in that not everyone can pull off such a bold look, but the stylish new black jerseys UNLV unveiled Wednesday night at Illinois State suit the Rebels just fine. Said guard Anthony Marshall: "If we would have lost tonight, we probably wouldn't have worn them again, so we're happy to get the win with them so we can continue to wear them."

• If you believe Kentucky's players and coaches, they're as clueless as the rest of us about the soon-to-be-announced results of the Wildcats' appeal regarding the eligibility of freshman Enes Kanter. "I think we're all getting pretty anxious," wing Darius Miller said Thursday. "He's a great player and he'd be a huge help and asset to the team. We're all waiting like everybody else."

• Instead of enrolling at Louisville in January and not being eligible to begin playing again until mid-December 2011, Wake Forest transfer Tony Woods apparently will enroll at a junior college in hopes of becoming eligible for the start of next season. "I plan to attend Louisville next fall if everything goes to plan," Woods told the Louisville Courier-Journal. "If coach (Rick) Pitino will have me here, and he's already said that he would."

Missouri's strong performance in a narrow loss to Georgetown cemented its reputation as a Big 12 contender, so it's easy to overlook that the Tigers have struggled to put away the lesser competition they've faced so far this season. The latest example: An 83-80 win over rebuilding Oregon in which Missouri led by 22 at one point yet somehow gave the Ducks a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer.

Seton Hall star Jeremy Hazell hurt his wrist during the Paradise Jam tournament on Nov. 19, yet curiously the shooting guard didn't undergo surgery until Thursday. Seton Hall did not provide a new time table for his return, though the school originally projected that he would be back on the court in about four to six weeks.

• In hindsight, Tommy Amaker's six semi-successful seasons at Michigan look better than they did a few years ago since it's not like John Beilein has instantly transformed the Wolverines into world beaters. Amaker will make his return to Michigan for the first time since being fired in 2007 when his Harvard team faces the Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Saturday.

• A forgettable season at Charlotte got even worse on Thursday when first-year coach Alan Major announced he'd suspended leading scorer Shamari Spears indefinitely for violating undisclosed rules. Even without the senior forward, the 49ers had more than enough firepower to pound Radford, 73-52, on Thursday night behind 18 points from forward Chris Braswell.

• On a night when LaceDarius Dunn scored 24 points and hit six 3-pointers to lead Baylor to a 68-54 win over Arizona State, there was some concern in Waco over a forearm injury he sustained during the game. "It's tender right now and it's kind of hurting right now," Dunn told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram after the game. "I've got to get an X-ray."
