“My goal when we came into this facility was ‘how could I create that undiluted CrossFit experience but yet put the things around it that make people feel comfortable?’” says Damon Stewart, head trainer at Wasatch CrossFit in Utah.
Stewart says he balances the front-desk professionalism of a business with “the arena” where the workouts happen. The box includes a child-care facility, massage room, and men’s and women’s locker rooms. He tries to maintain a 1:9 coach to athlete ratio and have enough equipment to easily run a group of 18 athletes through the WOD.
“You name it: if it involves CrossFit, we have it,” Stewart says.
Quality coaching is a big part of the CrossFit experience at Wasatch CrossFit. According to Stewart, “One of the things we do for our coaches is pay for half of their certs, so they’re always improving, you know. We don’t ever want to be stagnant.”
Says Stewart: “I just want to have the best program that we possibly can.”
