Five crazy scenes from Sunday’s revelry in Lexington

The last time Kentucky reached the Final Four, John Elway was celebrating his first Super Bowl ring, Michael Jordan was still playing for the Chicago Bulls and Brandy and Monica's "The Boy is Mine" topped the pop charts.

As a result, Big Blue Nation staged quite a party on Sunday night in celebration of this year's return trip.

Once the Wildcats finished off their Elite Eight win over North Carolina to formally end their 13-year Final Four drought, Kentucky fans flooded the streets of Lexington, chanting, singing and rejoicing in the victory. Here's a timeline of the revelry based on pictures and video uploaded on YouTube and other social media:

One of the biggest celebrations took place at the corner of Euclid Ave and Woodland Ave in Lexington about a mile southeast of Rupp Arena. Fans congregated at that spot just as they had for a similar celebration 13 years earlier.

Anybody crazy enough to be studying at the William T. Young Library Sunday evening got an unexpected interruption when about 500 students poured into the lobby. They chanted "C-A-T-S Cats! Cats! Cats!" and yelled for popular senior Josh Harrellson and for coach John Calipari before eventually taking the celebration elsewhere.

What is it about Final Four berths that make college students want to set stuff on fire? Here's couch burning, the daytime session.

And here's couch burning, after dark. The police seem less amused the second time, eventually asking everyone on hand to clear the premises.

The most hardcore fans drove to Lexington Airport so they would be the first people the Kentucky players and coaches saw when they got off their plane. Hey, after 13 years without a Final Four at a basketball juggernaut like Kentucky, sometimes you take extreme measures to celebrate.
